Doula Support FAQ
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. I’m here to guide, support, and empower you to have the birth experience you desire.
What does a doula do during labor?
During labor, I provide:
Comfort measures like massage, counterpressure, and positioning support.
Encouragement and emotional reassurance.
Help with understanding what’s happening and making informed decisions.
A calm, supportive presence for you and your partner.
What are some other perks of having a doula on my team?
In addition to labor and emotional support, I offer:
Childbirth education tailored to your needs.
Lactation education and breastfeeding support.
Referrals to trusted perinatal resources such as pelvic floor therapists, chiropractors, and lactation consultants.
Herbal and aromatherapy support for relaxation and recovery.
Guidance on comfort measures and exercises to prepare for labor.
Postpartum follow-up care to ensure a smooth transition into parenthood and more!
Do you replace my partner?
Not at all! I work alongside your partner to support both of you. My goal is to empower your partner with tools and guidance so they can be as involved as they want to be.
What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife provides medical care during pregnancy and birth. A doula focuses on non-medical support, such as comfort techniques, emotional reassurance, and education. We complement each other to support you holistically.
How can a doula help me if I want an epidural or planned cesarean?
I support all birth preferences, whether you plan to go unmedicated, use an epidural, or have a scheduled cesarean. My role is to help you feel informed, empowered, and supported in your choices while providing comfort measures before and after interventions if needed.
When should I hire a doula?
Many families hire a doula in the second trimester, but it’s never too early or late! Hiring early ensures you have ample time to build a connection and access prenatal support.
Do you attend home births or hospital births?
I attend both home and hospital births. My goal is to support you wherever you feel most comfortable and safe.
Do you take Medicaid?
Yes, I accept Medicaid for birth support. Let’s discuss how we can work together through this option.
What if I’m not sure I need a doula?
That’s okay! Let’s schedule a consultation to chat about your needs and see if my services feel like the right fit for you. There’s no pressure—it’s about finding what works best for you and your family.
How do I book your services?
Contact me through the form on my website or email me directly. Once we connect, we’ll schedule a consultation to discuss your needs and how I can support you.
Can you work with me if I want a VBAC?
Absolutely! I have experience supporting families planning VBACs and can provide evidence-based information and encouragement throughout your journey.
Do you offer postpartum support?
Yes! I offer postpartum doula services, which include newborn care, light housekeeping, breastfeeding support, and emotional guidance during the postpartum period.
I don’t live in Northern Michigan. Can you still support me?
Yes! While I primarily serve families within a 1-2 hour radius of Traverse City, I also offer virtual doula services. This allows me to provide emotional, informational, and educational support no matter where you’re located. Let’s discuss how virtual support can work for your needs.
Birth Photography FAQ
How do you ensure the photography experience is comfortable and empowering for new parents?
Childbirth is a wild ride, full of ups and downs that can leave you feeling all sorts of things. But there's no judgment here. With two kiddos of my own and doula creds to boot, I'm all about keeping it real and making you feel like the absolute superstar you are, no matter your shape, size, or background. My mission at Wild Womb Photography? To capture your birth story just as it is – raw, beautiful, and uniquely yours.
What is your process for capturing authentic moments during newborn and family sessions?
Whether shooting in the hospital or your cozy home, we aim for a laid-back vibe. Forget stiff poses – we're all about capturing those natural, heartwarming moments as your family bonds with your newborn. I'll throw out some easy prompts like, 'Give your little one a cuddle and a smooch,' to keep things flowing smoothly. It's all about keeping it real and letting your family's love shine through in every shot.
What’s your editing style?
A little moody a little retro-film. When it comes to “photoshop” or altering your appearance, you're already one-of-a-kind, and when I edit your photos, I'm all about keeping it real! Letting your true self shine through without changing a thing. Your photos will capture the genuine you, just as you are!
How far in advance should I book a session with Wild Womb Photography?
Births can be pretty unpredictable, so I can only take on 2-3 birthing sessions a month. If you're thinking about birth or newborn photography, don't wait! Contact me ASAP to snag your spot. And if you're in a pinch for a Fresh 48 session, I might have an opening for you. Shoot me a message to check my availability!
How far will you travel?
I serve Traverse City, Michigan, and the surrounding area! I’m comfortable traveling an hour or two to photograph your birth, any more than that I risk not making it in time. There may be exceptions so reach out and we can chat! I may be able to travel to other areas in Northern Michigan for sessions that are not time-sensitive.
